Medisystems Baxter Dialysis

Medisystems Baxter Dialysis filters are a form of special tubing used in the process of kidney dialysis. Reports regarding potential injury and death caused by Baxter dialysis filters have led both the FDA and Baxter to issue warnings and recalls of the failing devices. A chemical used in manufacturing has been cited as the potential cause for the failure of the filters.

Dialysis tubing, sometimes referred to as visking tubing, is a type of semi-permeable membrane tubing made from regenerated cellulose or cellophane. It is used for diffusion, or more accurately osmosis, and only allows the passage of small molecules through its surface. It is used in clinical circumstances to ensure a filtered flow of molecules, preventing the flow of larger solute molecules.

More than five reports of death and two injuries initially prompted the recall of Medisystems Baxter dialysis filters. Since then, more than 51 deaths have been reported.  Medisystems Baxter has set aside $100 million to $150 million for litigation and related expenses. Dialysis centers have ceased using Medisystems Baxter dialysis products.

If you or a loved one has suffered an injury, illness or death, that seems to have been someone else's fault, call VanDerGinst Law at 1-866-843-7367 or click here for a FREE online case evaluation.
